Year 4 DT Shoe project

A post in our latest news section.

Over the past few weeks, our Year 4 students have embarked on an exciting journey into the world of fashion design, drawing inspiration from the renowned designer Dan Sullivan, founder of the eclectic brand Irregular Choice. In our DT lessons, the children explored Sullivan’s distinctive approach to shoe design, examining how he challenges traditional fashion norms with his playful and eccentric creations.

This week, inspired by his work, our students embarked on designing their own inventive shoes, each tailored for a specific celebrity or fictional character of their choice. This creative process involved brainstorming sessions, sketching designs, and considering materials and functionalities that align with their chosen celebrity or character.

We are immensely grateful to our supportive Year 4 parents, who generously donated pairs of shoes for this project. These contributions will enable the students to bring their imaginative designs to life in our upcoming DT lessons over the next few weeks, where they will transform the donated footwear into their envisioned masterpieces.

The Year 4 students have shown incredible enthusiasm and creativity throughout the design process. Their attention to detail, originality, and ability to think outside the box have been truly amazing. From bold patterns to quirky embellishments, each design is a reflection of their artistic flair. We can’t wait to see their final transformations and celebrate the hard work and ingenuity they have demonstrated!
