Continuing with our understanding of the lives of children in the Victorian era, we have been learning about Child Labour on farms and in coal mines. This week, we looked at the roles that children undertook in the collieries and discussed what it would have been like working in such dirty and dangerous environments. At the end of the lesson, the children were tasked with carrying Victorian watering cans so that they could water plants, fill water troughs for animals and take water the the workers in the colliery. Needless to say, the children understood how heavy and task this was there were a number of soggy shoes and socks when we finished.
