Year 1 Discover the Discovery Museum!

A post in our latest news section.

This week, Year 1 enjoyed an exciting and fun-filled trip to the Discovery Museum! The children had a wonderful day exploring everything the museum had to offer.

We began our visit by discovering the fascinating exhibits, including displays all about our local history. The children were full of curiosity and asked some fantastic questions as they explored.

As part of our visit, we took part in an engaging workshop linked to our History topic, ‘Our Recent Past’. The children listened to the wonderful story ‘Lost in the Toy Museum’ before becoming toy detectives themselves and embarking on a scavenger hunt around the museum. They thoroughly enjoyed searching for clues and spotting toys from different periods in history.

The workshop ended with the children creating their very own phenakistoscopes! The children were fascinated to discover how people entertained themselves in the past and loved making and testing their own creations.

During our visit, we also had the opportunity to see some incredible ships, allowing us to reflect on all the learning we completed during our Ships and Seafarers History unit. It was wonderful to make links between our previous learning and the exhibits we saw.

To finish our day, the children had great fun exploring the interactive science maze, where they investigated, experimented and enjoyed a range of hands-on activities.

It was a fantastic day filled with exploration, curiosity and memorable learning experiences. Year 1 represented the school brilliantly by being respectful, responsible and ready to learn throughout the entire trip. We are incredibly proud of them all!
