In Design Technology this week, we continued to develop our learning within our DT topic on smoothies.
The children explored a wide range of fruits, learning where they come from and the different times of year in which fruits grow best.
They investigated the different ways fruits grow, including on trees, bushes, and vines, and discussed how fruits are grown in different parts of the world. The children also began to understand the importance of seasonality and how this can influence the availability, taste, and suitability of fruits.
This learning encouraged the children to think carefully about making informed and thoughtful choices. As the unit progresses, this knowledge will help them to select the most appropriate fruits when designing and making their own smoothies, considering both taste and where the fruit comes from.
The children showed excellent curiosity and engagement throughout the lesson, asking thoughtful questions and developing a deeper understanding of food, farming, and healthy choices.
