Today in Maths, Year 1 began an exciting new topic as we explored fractions for the very first time! Today our learning focused on understanding what it means to find half of a shape or object and recognising that two halves must be equal.
To make our learning practical and engaging, the children worked in pairs to see who could split balls of playdough into the most equal halves. The classroom was filled with excitement as the children carefully compared their playdough pieces and discussed whether their halves were fair and equal.
We then held a class competition to see who could divide their playdough into two almost perfect halves. A huge congratulations to Louis S, who was crowned our class champion with incredibly impressive precision!
The children grasped this new concept brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed getting hands-on with their learning. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, teamwork and mathematical thinking throughout the lesson!
