A Wonderful World Book Day in Year 1!

A post in our latest news section.

Year 1 had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day today! The children arrived at school dressed in their comfiest clothes, ready to enjoy a day full of reading and stories.

Throughout the day we shared lots of our favourite books together. One of our favourite activities was decorating paper plates with the front covers of books we love. The children showed great creativity and it was lovely to hear them talking about why their chosen stories are special to them.

We also had the exciting opportunity to listen to an online live story reading from author Tom Percival, who read his book ‘The Bridges’. The children loved hearing a story read by a real author and it was a wonderful moment that helped bring books and storytelling to life. He also took time to answer questions about what it is like to be an author, sharing how he comes up with ideas for his stories and what the process of writing and illustrating a book looks like. The children were fascinated to hear about his job and loved learning more about the journey from an idea to a finished book.

Later in the day, we spent some special time with the lovely Year 3 class, where the children paired up to read together. It was fantastic to see the older children supporting and encouraging the Year 1s, and everyone really enjoyed sharing stories.

To finish our day, we gathered together for a very special story time, reading ‘Jonty the Gentoo’ with Jonty himself! It was the perfect way to end a day full of books, imagination and a shared love of reading.
