This half term, Year 5 and Year 6 are learning about the Battle of Newburn in their local history topic. After learning about the Battle of Newburn and the events that led to the English Civil War, Year 6 looked further into Charles I’s reign and debated to decide whether he deserved support from Parliament after he dissolved them for 11 years. There were some great discussions and it was very clear the children had a fantastic understanding of Charles’ way of ruling and the Battle of Newburn. Next week, the children will visit the battle ground and re-enact the battle… Well done, Year 6!
